Tango


Tango is a dance originally from Argentina and Uruguay. The Tango is derived from the fusion of many European music. Tango is essentially walking with a partner and the music, and a lot of improvisation there is not a basic step.

Fine Peruvian cuisine

TUMI is a Peruvian-Spanish restaurant located on Riverside Drive and Sample Road on Broward County. One of its specialties is the ceviche:

  • Ceviche de Corvina Fresco: Fresh fish(sea bass)

  • Ceviche Mixto: Fresh fish and seafood

  • Ceviche de Mariscos: Seafood

  • Ceviche de Camarones: Shrimp

Besides its delicious food TUMI entertain its guest by having once a month a duo (guitar and cajon) telling jokes and every Friday and Saturday live Vallenato(music from Colombia). I highly recommend this place the food and the server make a difference in the area.

Eat and Dance at Larios on the beach

Larios is a Cuban restaurant located on South Beach -really cozy and fun place to be. Larios special drink is the Manzanilla mojito(Cuban drink made with Rom, limes, sugar, sprinkle water, mint and flavor) made with Mariebrizar mixer. Larios also offer a private room in the second floor with a capacity of 70 people. And if that it is not enough on Friday, Saturday and Sunday Sexto Caribe plays live Latin music from 9 p.m. to midnight. So take a look bring your friends dance, eat and enjoy.

Before drinking get your tapas

Tapas is an appetizer in Spain since Alfonso X that did not allow people to drink without eating first. And the food will come in tapas(Wine cap)this is where the name came from. Tapas can not being missing out of drinks with your friends. There are some many types of tapas that I won't have enough space to tell them all, but I will give you one of the most delicious.

Ajillo Mushrooms

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup (2 fl. oz) olive oil
  • 4 cups (8 oz) mushrooms, wiped clean and quartered
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons dry sherry
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried red chile, seeded and crumbled
  • 1/4 teaspoon Spanish paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley

Directions

Heat the oil in a skilletand sauté the mushrooms over high heat for about 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
Lower the heat to medium and add the garlic, sherry, lemon juice, dried chile, paprika, and salt and pepper.
Cook for about 5 minutes or until the garlic and mushrooms have softened.
Remove from the heat, sprinkle with chopped parsley, and serve on small earthenware platters.

Juanes concert in the American Airlines Arena


Juanes (Juan Sebastian) born in Colombia, and at age 35 Juanes has won three Latin Grammys and he is considered one of the biggest Latin singers right now. Juanes is also known for his humanitarian work; establishing his own foundation "Mi Sangre" which aids victims of anti-personal mines. If you want to go and see why he is considered one of the best Spanish rock singers. Juanes will be on stage April 12 tickets available Ticket Master.

Three kings of salsa on concert – the best ones at once


Willie Colon born in New York from Puerto Rican parents. Colon recorded his first album at age 17. Cheo Feliciano born in Puerto Rico created his band when he was 8, and he success came at age 22 when he did his debut with the song “Perfidia”. Ismael Miranda born in Puerto Rico, and with only 19 Miranda joined “ Fania All start” one of the most salsa known group until now. Merengue the official dance from Dominican Republic

Merengue is a combination of two dances, the African and the French Minuet, from the late 1700's and early 1800's. Merengue is the official music and dance of Dominican Republic. The merengue is a two-step beat which requires both partners to bend their knees, and move their hips left and right. Some of the best representants are: Los hermanos Rosario, Sergio Vargas, Kinito Mendez, and Wilfrido Vargas.

Tapas y Tintos is a restaurant located in Espanola way in south beach. The recommended plate is Calamares en su tinta(boiled calamari with calamari ink and tomato sauce) The restaurant offers in door and outdoor sitting, and it has a little stage for the flamenco dancer on Saturdays.

Let's eat Mexican style


Let's try to cook fajitas. Fajitas is a plate from Mexico; it is grill meat served on a flour or corn tortilla. This plate is really easy and fast to cook, and you will be the queen or king of the fiesta! Fajitas are served with as many side sides as you want such as guacamole, pico de gallo, sour cream etc, just be creative.

Ingredients:


  • 1 pound flank or round streak cut into thin (1/4 inch) strips

  • 1/2 cup lime juice

  • 1/4 cup white vinegar

  • 1 each red and green bell pepper cut into long strips

  • 1 large onion cut into rings

  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon cayenne

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 12 flour tortillas

Broward and its Latin festival

Hispanic festival is celebrating its 20 anniversary. This festival is the longest running Latin festival in Broward County where you can find variety of Hispanic food and live Latin music. The Hispanic festival is going to take place on Saturday, March 29 at Pines Recreation Center next to BCC South Campus at 7400 Pines Hollywood Blvd, Pembroke Pines, FL 33024. El bodegon is a Latin supermarket that brings to Coral Springs variety of products from Central America and South America. You can find from Rollo coco (coconut candy) from Mexico to Rojita(berry soda) from Nicaragua and Festival(all purpose cleaner) from Panama. Of course, El bodegon keep the style of carniceria (place where you get your steaks) Instead of having the steak ready on trays the steak, it is cut and weighted in front of you. Also, you can find magazines, newspapers from countries like Colombia. El bodegon serves as a community classifiers as well since it has a wall dedicated only to place ads such as place for rent, sell cars or English classes.

Peruvian dish to the table

Aji de Gallina (female chicken) is a plate originally from Peru and cooked since the Inca Times. It is served over white rice and baby yellow potatoes. Even though this recipe is made with chicken you can cook it with beef, tuna etc, it 's up to your imagination. Some people like it really spice so you can add more Peruvian chili, aji.



Ingredients:

2 pounds skinless, bone-in chicken breast halves

1 onion, coarsely chopped

2 carrots, chopped

2 cloves garlic

2 quarts water

1 loaf white bread, crusts removed and cubed

1 (12 fluid ounce) can evaporated milk

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup walnut pieces

1 teaspoon vegetable oil

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 onion, chopped

2 teaspoons aji amarillo chile paste

2 teaspoons ground turmeric

4 hard-cooked eggs, sliced

1/4 cup kalamata olives, pitted and quartered

Where the salsa is from is still a mystery some say Cuba or Puerto Rico, but the important thing is that Salsa is one of our most enjoyable beats to dance. Salsa is playing on the Caribbean, central America and south America, so of course every country gives to salsa its unique touch, for example: Grupo Niche – Colombia, El combo de Puerto Rico - Puerto Rico, Celia Cruz – Cuba .

The Salsa gentleman


Gilberto Santa Rosa was born in Carolina, Puerto Rico where he started his career as a singer with Amarateus group in 1976. He is known as El caballero de la salsa (The salsa gentleman) and his unique style of soneo (improvisation) has given him his fame. Gilberto won in 1990 the Billboard Lo nuestro award for Best Male Singer. Santa Rosa is one of the best representatives of the salsa genre. Listen to one of his latest hits “Conteo Regresivo”, and you will know why he is one of the most talented Latin singers.

The bachata duo Monchy and Alexandra are performing this Feb. 13 in Café Iguana Pines located in Pembroke Pines, Fla. Monchy and Alexandra are Dominican singers; singing together since 1999. The Latin carnival that you can't miss


La calle ocho (SW 8th Street) is a Latin street Carnival every March; starting this year on March 6. This carnival gathers thousands of spectators and artists together to dance, eat and enjoy this largest annual party.

The carnival is divided in different sections to provide different activities to the guests:


  • The open house from 27Th to 17th avenue, stages full of salsa, balladas y merengues

  • New Salsa - Son Festival from 17th to 13th avenues; only salsa performances and dance contests.

  • Reagetton Alley from north to south in 12th avenue; hip hop and new urban sounds.

  • Parranda Zone from 11th avenue to 8th court; enjoy the street dancers

  • KidzZone from 8th to 4th avenues; no beer or liquor. Place family oriented.

Impress your friends with this authentic Latin recipe

You want a get together with your friends, and show them your Latin culinary skills. Then empanadas are the perfect finger food for you and your friends. Empanadas are a crescent- shaped pastry with a filling, very popular in South America. Be as creative: Empanadas can be filled with any type of food-- shrimp, beef, fruits anything.

These are the ingredients that you need to make an Argentinean empanada:


Dough Wrapper
4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1-2 tsp salt
1 cup cold butter, cut into small cubes, or 1 cup lard
2 eggs
2/3 cup cold water
2 tbs white vinegar



Argentine Meat Filling
1 lb ground beef, turkey, or chicken
4-6 hard boiled eggs
1 cup green olives (optional)
handful of raisins (optional)
1 or 2 large onions
3 cloves garlic
2-3 tbs ground cumin powder
1 tsp chili powder
2 tsp sugar
salt and pepper to taste

On Feb. 10th El Mundial de la Salsa (The world cup of salsa.) One of the biggest broadcast salsa concert takes place in Bayfront park, Miami . It is where thousands of people gather together to dance and enjoy bands playing salsa for 10 consecutive hours. If you really want to learn about Latin culture you can not miss this event where different countries (Cuba, Puerto Rico, Colombia etc) get together to play one of our most representative dances. A little bit of South America


Carnaval de Barranquilla in “La Covacha” , a club located in Miami, is celebrating the well recognized Colombian festival held four days preceding the ash day in Barranquilla, Colombia. It’s a four days long carnival where everybody is dancing-cumbias, porros, mapalés, gaitas, chandés, puyas, fandangos y merecumbés type of dances-on the streets and become part of the parades. Every year La Covacha and different Latin clubs in Miami bring Colombian bands to portray the Carnival in South Florida. Tickets are on pre-sale now in "La Covacha"$25 and the Carnival is on Feb. 9

The King of Bachata


Juan Luis Guerra was born in 1957 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He is a singer, writer and producer. He is associated to the Bachata Rhythm even though, Juan Luis likes to incorporate more rhythms to his songs like Rock, Gospel, bolero and merengue. One of his more popular and acclaimed song is "Ojala que llueva cafe" (if only it would rain coffee) which gave him his international fame in 1989. In 1997 he won 'five Latin awards being the first artist to receive the most awards in one night. And "Que me des tu carino" is one of my favorite songs from his album "La llave de mi corazon"(My heart's key)

West Palm beach brings cultures together


Clematis By Night is an event organized by the City of West Palm Beach mayor’s office. It brings different cultures together by having rock, r&b, reggae, Latin and blues bands playing live along with sidewalk shopping (food and items). It is held every Thursday from 5:30p.m. to 9:00p.m. in downtown West Palm Beach. If you want to enjoy the Latin rhythms Sabor Latino band will play on stage on Jan. 24 and Rozco Martinez on Feb. 14.

Delray Beach offers variety in its food

If you want to try Latin food all at once Cabana is the place; you can find from churrasco (Argentinean Steak) to Paella (Spanish Seafood) and appetizers from the Caribbean. Banchata one of the more sensual dances in Latin Culture

Bachata is a dance original from Dominican Republic. Its themes are usually love stories featuring heartbreaker and sadness. One of his major exponents is Juan Luis Guerra who gave the Bachata its international recognition. And groups as Aventura has continued to popularized Bachata.
