Gilberto Santa Rosa was born in Carolina, Puerto Rico where he started his career as a singer with Amarateus group in 1976. He is known as El caballero de la salsa (The salsa gentleman) and his unique style of soneo (improvisation) has given him his fame. Gilberto won in 1990 the Billboard Lo nuestro award for Best Male Singer. Santa Rosa is one of the best representatives of the salsa genre.
